I had the opportunity to interview one of my many professors at South Carolina State University. Not only is this man a Teacher he is a leader , husband and book writer. He has written four books and is currently working on his fifth book. With stunning photos and thoughts I am pleased to introduce you to Mr.Harwood …
Hi, guys, it's Ty thank you for tuning in I have one of my professors with me Mr. Patrick Harwood how are you today? I did my research and I've seen that you had four books that you've written already but can you tell the people the name of the books?
Sure, my first book was published in 2011 it's called the birds of magnolia cemetery Charleston secret bird sanctuary then three years later in 2014 I wrote and published a book about the cemetery itself call in "The arms of angels magnolia cemetery Charleston's treasure of history mystery and artistry" and then a couple of years later.
I've always been interested in nature photography bird photography is really a hobby a passion even, so I wrote up a book just about that, that I called "Nature Define burden nature photography from A to Z." I use every letter of the alphabet to extol different virtues and share different anecdotes like an adventure of going out to the nature and looking for birds to photograph that can be adventure or these are beautiful the birds can be in on and on through to Z.
This is the fifth book you're writing, correct?
Yes.
So, in your books all the photography, is you?
I've been a shutterbug since I was a little kid, I've always liked having cameras and taking pictures. My books are all very visual like the ones about Magnolia Cemetery is how big and beautiful some the monuments and the Memorial are and there hadn't been a book that featured it that way about the cemetery and of course the bird books that become pretty good at taking pictures of her which isn't the easiest thing because they're so small.
Oh, really do you think that you would ever branch out with your photography.
Well, I get it I find a lot of outlets for it not only in my books, but I also blog regularly. I've had a blog since 2010 and that's pretty much a photography, blog, Travel, nature a lot of what most of the postings are about related to.
So, I had the chance to look through the fifth book as a transcript could you just tell the people a little bit about the book and how it what inspired you to continue to go on.
well, I have an interest in graveyards in cemeteries for f on with an officer reddingite years at the College of Charleston. I taught a course specifically about what you can learn from the whole Charleston church graveyards and the books about the magnolia cemetery. So I had in the back of my mind to do something about the church some very beautiful old churches in Charleston have well-maintained graveyards overall and I thought that we need to do a book on the scale that I did. " Miami Dorm of Angels Magnolia Cemetery Bluff" is a large book with big color photographs and to end to do a book about all the other 14 church graveyards and every denomination you can think of from Baptist to Catholic to Presbyterian.
so where could we locate the book will it be on Amazon?
yes, it will be on Amazon it may be self-publish solo the Charleston newspaper the post, and courier have a publishing entity called evening post books. So I'm planning probably pretty soon Just submit the online manuscript admission, so we'll see I'll give it a shot in a minute they pro spouse to be all about Charleston and feature local ride or so move here it is I could have a track record up successfully publishing books and so we'll see it would be kind of nice if that company picked it up and could do a lot of the sort of final things. As far as layout and the printing and binding and all that.
OK well, I know you've been in Charleston, and I just want to know if you traveled anywhere outside of Charleston South Carolina to take pictures to navigate information about your book and if you have been where have you been?
Oh, as far as traveling well far is overseas and I have to credit my wife for this because she's with a software company and she's traveled internationally with her job and play. Just in the past maybe five years I've had the chance to join her in in Amsterdam and the Netherlands in Paris France and Lisbon Portugal and of course I took a lot of pictures, and we did a lot of traveling busy places. So there is my blog as well and we have also been to several of the Caribbean islands just on vacations over the years so yeah when wherever I go I take my camera and I also always look for birds because you had different countries and islands and you'll see birds that you haven't seen before.
So, could you just give us you're @ for your blog and where the people can contact you if they have any questions?
So my blog is called Birdseye views and it's at my Birdseye views @blogspot and if you just do a search of my name Patrick Harwood author or Patrick Harwood Charleston you'll find things I have to sell my books on Amazon as well as sell them personally and they been in a number of the bookstore's shop since stores in Charleston over the years, so I hope this new one will get in there also.
